Raising Arizona

I saw Raising Arizona for the first time yesterday.

I loved this part:

Gale: Why ain't you breast-feeding? You appear to be capable.
Ed McDonnough: Mind your own bid'ness.
Evelle: Ma'am, you don't breast-feed him, he'll hate you for it later. That's why we wound up in prison.
Gale: Anyway, that's what Doc Schwartz tells us.

Letter to my Cats

Dear Cats,

Do not eat my food. You have a full bowl of fresh wet cat food.

When I turn around to put a dish in the sink, do not grab a piece of tofurky off my sandwich and run. I will catch you and I will still eat the tofurky slice. I may even eat you.

I'm 8 months pregnant. Do not fuck with my food.

Love,

Jess

I Yelled at the Bagger at A & P

I was in line buying a loaf of bread at A & P.

There was a woman buying groceries in front of me. Her son was helping her bag. She was still gathering her things when the cashier rang up my bread. The woman's son puts MY bread into a bag. WTF?

I yelled "Hey that's mine!"

That's when I realized that the guy who I thought was the woman's son was not her son, but the A&P bagger.....

I apologized as much as I could. I felt like such an ass.

Beach Day: FAIL

A couple of months ago, I took Des to the beach with some friends.

He liked playing in the sand, but was terrified of the water. After an hour or so, he started getting very cranky and kept saying he wanted to go home. I tried distracting him but he was very upset so we left the beach. I took a separate car so my friends stayed.

When we got to the bathrooms right before the parking lot, he calmed down. We got fries and then he ran around the snack area like a maniac.

My friends came down and we all went to the boardwalk. Des had fun, and we even visited some other friends that live near the beach afterwards.

It wasn't a horrible day but the beach part was hard on me. It was not relaxing and I said I wouldn't take Des again this year without Matt.

Today (Tuesday), Matt's mom, sister, and her boyfriend were going to the beach. I asked Des if he wanted to go, and he said yes! He said he was going to play in the sand and just look in the water. I figured he would have a better time being with family he knows well than my friends who he sees less often.

It was worse. He was super cranky the moment we got there, fighting me with the sunscreen, getting upset any time he had sand on him. He had a little bit of fun playing with the sand, but this was in between him whining about going home. Thankfully, we took two cars so I was able to leave with Des while everyone else stayed.

We drove an hour and a half there, stayed for an hour and half, then drove an hour and a half home.

My child is not a beach child.

Vermont Vacation!

We had an awesome time in Vermont.

We stayed at our friend Mike's house, a huge house on three acres of land. Mike has a huge "garden." Garden is in quotes because his garden is ten times the size of ours! We ate so much fresh produce right off the plants. Delicious.

I got to sleep in every day, which was wonderful. Matt and Des got up early and went exploring, took bike rides to black berry patches. I got to wake up at 10 am and eat fresh black berries!

The city of Burlington was really nice. It kind of reminded me of a really big Montclair. We walked around the different shops, ate a couple veg-friendly restaurants. There were free human circus shows in the park! They were pretty cool.

Sunday we were about to leave the city to go back to Mike's house when a golden retriever ran across the street. We pulled over and didn't see any people with the dog so Mike ran after the dog. A dad and his kids came up to our car and asked if it was our dog.

We said no, we didn't want her to get hit by a car. The dad tells us that they were playing with the dog by the lake but they didn't know whose dog it was. I didn't know what to say. So you saw this dog was by herself, you played with her but you didn't do anything to find out where her caretaker was or to make sure she didn't get hit by a car or something else horrible.

Thankfully Mike caught the dog, and called the police. The dog's caretaker had also called the police so both the caretaker and the police showed up within ten minutes!

Packing, packing, packing

We always wait until the last minute to pack. Always, always.

We plan on leaving for Vermont about 8 pm tonight.

It's usually not a big deal, but being tired, pregnant, and having to take care of a 2.5 year old put in a few kinks.

I'm doing laundry now. I'm trying to think if I should start making dinner now or wait until after Des's nap. I'm thinking after.

I plan on making baked ziti with Daiya Cheese and TVP. I'm off to look for a "meaty" TVP recipe.

We also have guacamole so I'm going to pick some Mizuna from the garden and mix those together. That will be our salad!

Macs!

Eight years ago I was introduced to Macs. I fell in love and ever since I had the money to buy my own computers, it's been nothing but macs.

There have been a few hiccups but not as many as I had with PCs.

So sites like this: Mac Computer

really make me wish I had a ton of money.

I have a Macbook from 2008 which works great, but does not have enough memory for video editing. I'd love to have a separate iMac solely for video editing.

I'm drooling over this right now. I have put a few videos of Des on youtube and wish I could do more, but I would need that iMac! I have been taking videos but can't edit right now. I also have video from our wedding. I would love to edit that and get some clips on line.

Like I said, my laptop is great but when its ultimate time comes, this looks like a great replacement.

oh Macs, why do you make me drool so much?

bad to the bone.

Des was eating some broiled tofu with a butter knife. He's such a badass!

VT Here We Come!

We are going to Vermont this weekend. This will be my first time! I've been to Massachusetts as a kid, but don't remember it. Otherwise, I've been up to NY and Canada and that's about it as far as up north goes.

I'm a bit worried about the car trip and me being seven months pregnant. I hate having to pee all the time, and I hate sitting for long amounts. I think the trip is about 5 hours. I wish I could sleep in the car like Desmond does.

We will see friends, eat good food and have fun.
